William Slocum received the Bachelor of Fine Arts and the Master of Music degrees from the University of New Mexico and earned an Artist's Diploma at the Julliard School of Music where he studied French horn with James Chambers. Mr. Slocum has had extensive experience as a performer of chamber music for the horn. For four years he played simultaneously in the Kent Woodwind and Brass Quintets and the Cleveland Woodwind and Brass Quintets.
Previously, Mr. Slocum was conductor of the Cheyenne, Wyoming Symphony Orchestra. He played principal horn of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under Josef Krips, toured Japan under Leonard Bernstein, toured Europe and South America under Zubin Mehta with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and toured Europe under George Szell while he was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra.
As a member of the faculty of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, he serves as the Music Director of the Dana Symphony Orchestra, Professor of French horn, and a member of the Dana Faculty Brass Quintet. Mr. Slocum has been active as a composer and his compositions have been performed at the Cleveland Institute of Music, The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Music Settlement.
During the 1993-1994 season, Mr. Slocum was conductor of the Wyoming All State Orchestra and the Kentucky All State Orchestra. Most recently, he and Professor Roman Rudnytsky collaborated their efforts as conductor and soloist for th Aquascalientes Symphony Orchestra in Mexico performing, "Nights in the Gardens of Spain". In addition to his accomplishments in the field of music, Mr. Slocum is extremely interested in art. He has been priveledged to have his artwork exhibited in the Cleveland Art Museum's Annual May Show.
