John
W. Manhollan joined the faculty of the Dana School of Music in 2006 after an extensive teaching career that included service in both K-12 and higher education. An alumnus of Youngstown State University (B.M. / M.M.), Manhollan previously served as Director of Bands at West Middlesex (Pa.) Area School District and held limited-service positions at Thiel College and Westminster College (both Pa.), teaching studio bassoon, woodwind pedagogy and secondary instrumental methods.
An avid interest in educational technology and its
use in support of teaching led to Manhollan’s appointment in 1996 as
Technology Coordinator for WMASD. During this time he became active
in professional development instruction, creating lessons and seminars
that focus on integrating various software and hardware options into
daily curriculum delivery. Upon his retirement in 2003, he found these
experiences and a growing expertise in the field opened new professional
opportunities in the private sector.
In addition to teaching the course, Computer Applications for Music Educators, here at YSU, Manhollan provides instructional technology consulting services to education clients throughout the surrounding metropolitan area. He concentrates on the areas of interactive whiteboards and educational software applications.
